Updating the Firmware Receiver
We are asked many times what maintenance needs to be done with the Trimble receivers. There really is none. They don't need to be cleaned and calibrated like your mechanical total stations. Occasionally, Trimble does, however, come out with new Firmware. Firmware helps fix bugs in the receiver's operating system, enhances communication with satellites and Bluetooth communication with data collectors, and in GNSS receivers allows them to listen to other satellite constellations. Click here for the latest Firmware for the 5700, 5800, R7, R8 and R8 GNSS.
- Download the proper Firmware Version from
Trimble's website
- Once downloaded, "run" the executable
- The WinFlash program will now be installed or
updated, if already installed
- Follow the on-screen instructions to load
- Once finished loading the WinFlash program,
connect the 5700/R7 or 5800/R8/R8GNSS via
download cable to Port2/supply power to Port 3
(5700/R7)
- On the PC or laptop, select
Start/Programs/WinFlash/Select 5700/R7 or
5800/R8/GNSS and the proper com being used on
your PC
- If a password is needed, you may need a
password or warranty update if your receiver is out
of firmware warranty. If this is the case, you may
want to or need to purchase an extended warranty
for the receiver. Contact Kory at the below
number. If you already have a new password,
select "Update Receiver Options" and enter the
24-digit code.
- Finish
- WinFlash will now establish communication with
the receiver and update the expiration date
- Once this is done, select Menu/Upgrade GPS
Software/Next/Firmware Version 2.xx or
3.xx/Next/Finish
- The receiver firmware will now be upgraded
